"Every Body's Gorgeous": AMA calls on budding filmmakers to enter award

Budding filmmakers are being encouraged to enter the Australian Medical Association and Diners Club Community Service Announcement Award for 2001 - with a first prize of $5,000.

The theme for this year's competition "Every Body's GORGEOUS" aims to reinforce positive messages about body image.

AMA Federal President, Dr Kerryn Phelps, said the award encouraged people with film-making aspirations to produce a creative 30 second community service announcement (CSA) for television.

"We need to deliver an effective message to all Australians - regardless of age or gender - on developing respect for their bodies," Dr Phelps said.

"We are delighted that cartoonist and author Kaz Cooke, who has written many books on body image and self-esteem issues, will join our judging panel this year, as well as Melbourne psychiatrist and Chair of the AMA's Public Health and Aged Care Committee, Dr Bill Pring.

"The AMA Diners Club CSA Award is an excellent opportunity for entrants to influence community thinking on important public health issues," she said.

Dr Phelps thanked Diners Club and Channel Nine for their continuing support for the competition - now in its third year.

"Diners Club is providing the $5,000 first prize and Channel Nine will screen the winning CSA across its national network."

Dr Phelps said entry forms were available through the AMA Federal Office in Canberra on

(tel) 02 6270 5400 and all entries were due by Friday September 28, 2001.
